Happy May Day!

May 1, 2018 will always be a special moment for me. The day started out cloudy, rainy and cold but soon developed into a heartwarming special occasion.      The Dude (Dave Rickabaugh) drove me from his home in Hemet, 65 miles from the Oceanside Pier where we were met by my brother Nick, his wife Sharon, Sharon's sister Pam, and her husband Joe Simpson. My great friend Jim Wickstrom was also there spreading his goodwill and cheer as he always does. For a coast-to-coast bicycle ride it's traditional to always dip the rear bike tire into ocean and then repeat the process with the front tire 3000 miles later in the next ocean you come across. I've never been one to mess with tradition, so there I was at 9:30 in the morning standing in the icy waters of the Pacific with my bike's back tire in the water. Pictures were taken and hugs were given and soon I was pedaling away with the town of Hemet -- nearly 65 miles north --as my first destination on this journey. Today started with temperatures below 50° with a cold and rainy wind, hardly ideal conditions for another 60+ mile bicycle ride. But the Dude and I made it all the way to Palm Springs today, with nary a problem. Walter is camped in the back parking lot of the Aqua Caliente Casino, and all is good. Tomorrow our site is set on Bombay Beach, about a 55 mile bike ride. We're in the desert now where temperatures should be around 90° tomorrow -- much improved over the 50° temps for much of today. On a sidenote, I've received over 100 texts and Facebook posts. Thank you for your continuing concern and support. Warriors Heart thanks you as well!
